RDA Launches Rs140 Million Project to Improve Rawalpindi Roads

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has initiated a Rs140 million project aimed at enhancing key roads across the city. This project focuses on removing encroachments, adding cycle lanes, and enforcing traffic rules to promote a safer, more organized environment. Targeted areas include Kachehari Chowk, Rashid Minhas Road, Murir Hasan, Murir Chowk to Murree Road, and Faizabad.

Upon approval, work will begin with improvements such as zebra crossings at intersections to enhance pedestrian safety and a ban on honking near educational institutions. New poles will be installed along footpaths in front of shops to keep cars and motorcycles off pedestrian areas.

Cycle lanes will be marked clearly on the left side of the roads, and speed bumps will be added to control traffic flow. Renovations will be carried out on the Moti Mahal and Committee Chowk underpasses, with upgrades to lighting and an eight-foot height restriction for vehicles. Barriers will be added to prevent wrong-way driving, with spike barriers and reflectors improving overall road safety.

RDA Director General Kanza Murtaza noted that the project aims to refresh these busy routes and curb traffic violations. The initiative will also make footpaths more accessible for pedestrians, with support from the Municipal Corporation to clear footpath encroachments.

Upgrades are also underway on the Metrobus corridor from Saddar to Faizabad, improving both the appearance and functionality of the Metrobus service.
